Voltage Verification Problems - SOLVED

Post by BuckeyeGuy »

All,

I have been enjoying soldering together my DS0 Shell kit, and got to the point of mating the two boards together, powering it up, and verifying voltage. However, all of the voltage measurements appear to all be out of spec. The screen turns on and displays properly and my input voltage is correct, but here are the voltages I am seeing:

Test Point / Expected / Actual

V+ / 8.35V / 6.73V
AV+ / 5V / 3.37V
V- / -7.87V / -9.4V
AV- / -5V / -6.65V
V1 / 0V / -1.64V
V2 / 0V / -1.64V
V3 / 0V / -1.64V
V4 / ~1.65V / 0.041V

Any thoughts as to what may be causing all of the values to be off? Did I accidentally fry something during the soldering?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards,

Pete

It looks all voltages were off by about 1.5V. Could that be a measurement issue?

I thought that too, so I tried my meter on a known source and it was good.

I took a closer look at the instructions again after some more troubleshooting, and the solution was easy (and embarrassing).

I confused two steps and was using the test output clip as my ground when taking measurements, instead of the DGND position on the digital board. Once I realized this and moved the negative meter probe to the proper location, all measurements are solid.

Thanks for your help.
