Car ignition secondary signal

Post by Albert850i »

I have built a DSO Shell, which went very well, nice little tool.
I want to use this to get an image of the secondary ignition signal in my car engine. Using a Hantek HT25 pick-up probe.
Unfortunately I don't know how to get the signal image on my DSO Shell. Anybody know which DSO settings to use?

Thank you Rob.
I tried a capacitive pick-up probe from Hantek, assuming that the required electronics are built in.
But I get no signal on my DSO Shell; test signal works fine.
Mmm.

I don't see any connecting to a 5 (12) Volt powerline, so I suspect there is only a resistant and capacitor (and maybe 5 volt diode for protection) into the little box.
If you have you can use a (AC) Voltmeter to check if there is any signal on the BNC-connector.
If the 5 Volt is a problem, you can use 12 Volt from the car batterie, the NE555 and all other electronics can handle 15 Volt.
