Buying a DSO Shell, questions regarding internal battery

Hello Guys,

I am going to buy a DSO Shell and am thinking about installing a lipo battery inside the case. Here are the stuff that I am going to order. Can you guys take a look and see if the DC/DC converter as well as the battery can fit into the case?

1. JYE Tech DSO138 Power DC/DC Converter Boost Module Step-up Module Board (don't know the dimension)

2. 3.7V 1500mAh 494251 lithium polymer battery (Thickness 4.9mm, length 51mm, width 42mm)
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3-7V-15 ... 18694.html

Thanks a lot!

See here for some alternatives to install an internal battery.

The module you posted is a boost converter, you would need a charging module also.

The battery you posted is a protected one (good) but is 51*42*5 mm (L*W*H), L and H would fit but W is on the limit (I measure 40-41 mm), maybe filing some plastic would help, but I'd rather go for a smaller one.

Thank you so much for the reply and the helpful info. Do you think the following combination is a better option?
1. 5pcs/lot Boost + Protect + Charge 3.7V Lithium Battery 18650 Output 6V 7.5 9V 10 12V Module Circuit Board

2. SD503450 3.7V 1000mah Li-ion Rechargeable Battery Li ion Battery 503450 (Thickness 5mm, length 50mm, width 34mm)

The module includes charge + protection + boost, and the battery is protected, so it's better either to combine the module you say (BTW this is the same one, if you want to buy just 1 piece) with an unprotected battery, or use a charge + boost without protection (this is the one I used) with the protected battery, to avoid redundant protection.

The problem with combined (chg+boost or chg+prot+boost) modules is that, in principle, you can't put a switch between the battery and the booster, so the battery is always feeding the standby current of the module. Not a very important problem, as I said in the other thread, because as it's low it would drain the battery only after a very long time, but in my second mod (still didn't post it) I managed to modify the charge+boost module so I could put one of the sections of the main switch (SW5 in the schematic, I had to mod the mainboard PCB also to separate both sections) between the battery and the booster. Of course, this is easier if you use separate charger (protected or unprotected) and booster, but it also takes more space.

I'm attaching a picture of the "battery bay" size:

As you can see, a maximum of 60x42 could fit, but I would leave some margins...

As for the maximum thickness, without the encoder mods described here and here, it would be not more than 4-4.5 mm (maybe 5mm would fit, but the solders in the encoder's mini PCB could damage the battery). After the mod, you can reach up to 9 mm, except in the DC jack area where it would be 1.5 mm less:
