I just built a DSO shell and read that there's some bugs in the 054 firmware version I have, so I'm considering upgrading it and found the instructions here. It's for the DSO-138 but from what I've read the procedure is the same for the DSO Shell.
A Windows based PC is used in the instructions, but I'm wondering if there's a way an Apple Mac running OSX can be used instead?
Firmware upgrading with a Mac (not PC)

The document for DSO Shell is here http://www.jyetech.com/Products/LcdScop ... rmware.pdf .
No sure if the Flash Bootloader Demonstrator can run on Mac.

Re: Firmware upgrading with a Mac (not PC)
Perhaps it can work on with Windows installed via Bootcamp on a Mac?
I found that there are Mac OSX drivers for the UART bridge, but nothing for the actual flasher software.

Re: Firmware upgrading with a Mac (not PC)
"Bootcamp" would be an option... Or virtual machine with the serial (or USB) device passed through.
Or there's this tool:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/stm32flash/
It's designed for Linux, but apparently can be used on Windows and MacOSX too. However, I've not used it. I just found it by Googling. Be extremely careful if you try this, as tools like this tend to be powerful, and assume the user knows what they are doing.

Re: Firmware upgrading with a Mac (not PC)
Thanks, I didn't know about that one, but as far as I can tell it's a command-line only tool, so you really need to know what you're doing.
I think I'll go with the easier to use Windows software under Bootcamp instead

You can also try inside VMWare or Parallels Desktop.Tekmek wrote:Thanks, I didn't know about that one, but as far as I can tell it's a command-line only tool, so you really need to know what you're doing.

That link doesn't work and just brings me to one of Jye Tech's web pages.jye1 wrote:The document for DSO Shell is here http://www.jyetech.com/Products/LcdScop ... rmware.pdf .

I understand that I need to buy the JYE 119 serial UART-USB converter which somehow connects between a PC (hopefully also a Mac's USB ports when running the Windows software within Bootcamp), but where do I connect it to the DSO Shell? I suppose the above document explains all that.
Re: Firmware upgrading with a Mac (not PC)
Use ST-LINK (US $ 1.88).
Installing the ST-LINK V2 program for Mac (RU): https://geektimes.ru/post/258374/ (ENG) http://macappstore.org/stlink/

Re: Firmware upgrading with a Mac (not PC)
Thanks.
I couldn't find ST-link, but do you mean ST-Link v2 (AU$ 3.24/US$ 2.50)?
But I did find JYE 119 on eBay (GBP 4.79/US$ 5.94).
Do these devices all work the same, and can they be used for anything else than updating the DSO Shell firmware?
UPDATE: is this (STM32F103C8T6) the ST-link you're talking about?

I used https://ru.aliexpress.com/item/FREE-SHI ... Title=true
Works good. (My Windows OS)
UPDATE: JYE 119 - is an expensive solution. It is better to use https://ru.aliexpress.com/item/1PCS-CH3 ... Title=true. The main thing is an output of 3.3 volts.
