Units confusion

Post by Tinue »

I am confused about the units used. When I analyze the test signal, this is what I have to do:
- To fill the screen vertically, I have to select "0.5V". Peak to Peak is 3.7 Volt. So why do I have to select 0.5V, and not 5V?
- To see exactly one full wave, I have to select "0.1ms". It's a 1kHz Signal, so why don't I have to select 1ms?

Everything seems to be off by a factor of 10.

The value you selected is 0,5V per division. So it shows 0,5 volts per 'block' meaning 8 times 0,5 on screen is about 4 volts pp.
Selecting 5 V/div would give 8 times 5 is 40 V peak to peak.

hope this helps

The unit is up to your selection. To see details you select smaller unit so waveforms look bigger. To get an overall view you choose larger unit which will make waveforms look smaller. This is true vertically and horizontally.
