Variable Capacitors Fell Apart.

Post by DexofHazard »

After successfully assembling my DSO068, I got to the adjustment stage and ran into a problem. While I was adjusting the capacitors, they literally fell apart. One of the little discs slipped out from under the screw, and fell into the carpet, never to be seen again. This happened on both variable caps. Has anybody else run into this? I was being so gentle and I didn't feel any resistance, like I'd hit a stop.

Without the variable caps, I can't correct my wave form. I'm going to replace them. I found some that match the physical dims but look to be better quality. I'm questioning the range though. Has anybody else done this? The parts I'm looking at have a range between 5.5 pf and 30 pf. I will update with results when my parts come in.

Problem solved. I removed the old variable caps and soldered in the new ones. Wave form is now properly adjusted. The difference is night and day. I will follow up with pics and specs later.
