Cannot perform firmware update to 113-06801-061

Post by individual »

My 068 oscilloscope kit came with this specs:
- PCB version H (as assembly printed manual states; the screen have no indication, just "PCB:")
- Bootloader: 113-06803-020
- MAIN: 06801-060 (this is probably the firmware version)
- KEYPAD: 06802-030

I want to update the firmware to 113-06801-061. When I pres DL on avrubd it tries to make the connection to the oscilloscope, but all I get is fail to connect. The Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge driver is successfully installed on COM1 and it shows in PC device manager as soon as oscilloscope is connected to USB port. I have Win7/64bit. I also tried to install the 64bit driver from Silicon Labs and Windows reports that I have the correct driver. The COM port is set both in device manager and avrubd as indicated in your tech note. I would say I have performed every requirement, yet it fails to connect to the oscilloscope... and that it happens with jyelab as well (I will start another topic on that issue).

Could you please help with this upgrade?

What was the message AVRUBD reported when it failed? Did you reboot 068 right after clicking on the DL icon?

X Connect fail
I have rebooted after, before and during choosing option 11. REBOOT in oscilloscope's menu. All I get is X Connect fail. All the time. While the Send connect key: 64 happens, the oscilloscopes stays a bit longer in Bootloader mode, but after X Connect fail it continues and starts in oscilloscope mode.

The communication format on AVRUBD should be 9600 bps, 8-N-1,do not use 115200 bps as for jyeLab. Please change the connection count to 100 or so. This will make the connecting easier. Start download at AVRUBD first then reboot DSO068 from menu or press the RESET button.

Please see my reply at the other thread. The two symptoms may be related.

I tried to upgrade the main firmware to version 113-06801-061 following the instructions provided in the manual. Below is the log file. I connected the scope to my PC using USB cable. Launched the AVRUBD.exe, congigured COM port to 9600,8,N,1,N, checked it with the actual port settings. Clicked on DN button then powered up the scope. The software had worked for about 1 min then reported success:

V Loading file success: [D:\...\Desktop\DSO068\113-06801-061.hex]
> File length: 0xB400/46080
> Flash size: 0x10000/65536
> Buffer size: 0xB400/46080

> Start download
$ Send reset command: [7E ]
> Start connect
$ <1> Send connect key: 64
$ <2> Send connect key: 64
$ <3> Send connect key: 64
: 43 C
$ <7> Send connect key: 64
: 43 C
V Connect success

> Packag [360/360], Data [45.0k/45.0k], Retry [0/0]
V Update success: time elapsed: [52.6s], speed: 0.9k/s.

After all the scope rebooted, but, to my surprise it reported the same, old MAIN firmware version 113-06801-060.
Did the upgrade happen or I have to do it again? I have successfully tried two times and am confused now.

Update: I noticed some new mods in Freq meter and test signal menus, as you state it on your webpage, but why does it display the old MAIN firmware version number during boot process?
